Broad-spectrum

When a product is labeled “broad-spectrum,” it means that it is in between full-spectrum and isolated formulations. They contain terpenes and other beneficial cannabinoids, which means they offer some of the benefits that come with the entourage effect, but without any trace of THC. If your job doesn’t allow you to have any traces of THC in your system, then a broad-spectrum product might be the best option for you. 

Cannabidiol

Cannabidiol is also known as CBD. It is one of the naturally occurring cannabinoids found in cannabis plants. It’s the second most prevalent active ingredient in cannabis, but it does not produce any psychoactive effects. Instead, Cannabidiol interacts with the endocannabinoid system, the part of the nervous system that researchers believe plays a role in mood, sleep, and appetite. 

Cannabinoid

Cannabinoid and cannabidiol are often confused, but a cannabinoid is a diverse chemical compound that acts on the endocannabinoid system receptors throughout the body. The two most notable cannabinoids are THC and CBD. There are hundreds of cannabinoids found in the cannabis plant.

Certificate Of Analysis

A certificate of analysis is a document from an accredited laboratory certifying the number of cannabinoids in any given product. This proof of analysis is meant to benefit the consumer as it guarantees quality assurance. Review every COA to help you avoid mislabeled or low-quality products.

Delta-9 Tetrahydrocannabinol

Tetrahydrocannabinol is known better by its abbreviation THC. This is one of the primary cannabinoids found in cannabis and the one responsible for its psychoactive effects. It works on endocannabinoid receptors in the brain and produces the high feeling cannabis is usually known for. As a result, many people prefer hemp-based products that contain very little to no THC.

Endocannabinoid System

Sometimes referred to as the ECS, the endocannabinoid system maintains bodily homeostasis or keeping an internal balance. Many scientists and researchers agree that cannabis is effective because some of the compounds it contains mimic our endocannabinoids. These receptors are found throughout the entire body, and the system plays a part in many of the body’s processes, including appetite, stress, sleep, and even immune function. 

Entourage Effect

The entourage effect results from the many components in the cannabis plant working together with the human body to produce a more substantial effect than just one component on its own. Full-spectrum CBD products combine CBD with other naturally occurring terpenes and cannabinoids (including THC) to be more effective than their isolate counterparts. 

Farm Bill

In December 2018, the United States Congress voted to pass the Agriculture Improvement Act of 2018, more commonly referred to as the Farm Bill. This legislation made it legal to purchase CBD in all 50 states. Under the Farm Bill, industrial hemp must contain less than .3% THC. The Farm Bill also gave the FDA the authority to regulate cannabis products. 

Full-spectrum

CBD labeled full-spectrum will contain all of the terpenes, flavonoids, cannabinoids, and fatty acids found in hemp. These properties have their own therapeutic value, which, when combined, create what’s known as the entourage effect. When you break it down, full-spectrum CBD gives you every potential benefit that the cannabis plant has to offer.

Hemp

Hemp is a distinct strain of the Cannabis sativa plant, often grown for industrial use. For hemp to be legal to use, it must contain less than .3% THC.

Hemp Seed Oil

Derived from hemp, the hemp seed oil is created by pressing the plant’s seeds. It is often used as a dietary supplement and low-saturated-fat cooking oil. 

Isolate

Isolates are products that are 99% pure CBD. To make an isolate, everything besides CBD is removed so that you’re left with CBD in the form of a powder or crystalline. Unfortunately, this means that isolated users will not benefit from the entourage effect. 

Terpenes

Terpenes are the aromatic oils that are found in cannabis plants that lend themselves to flavors like pine, berry, mint, and more. More than 100 different terpenes have been identified, and every cannabis strain has its own unique terpene profile. In addition, the effects of terpenes can be intensified in the presence of other compounds, also known as the entourage effect.

Tincture

Tinctures are another delivery method for CBD oil that is typically administered sublingually. It quickly gets absorbed in your system and distributes evenly throughout the body.
